My favourite thing was teaching the preps there dance. Akuac, Keira, Daisy, Vivienne and I all came up with a dance together for the opening act of the production. On Thursday Akuac and I taught Prep K the dance and they were so good we got through the whole song. So far this week has been very busy!!!!!

Soccer Round Robin

In term 2 some of the seniors did a soccer round robin. We all did 5 games but the girls got to do 6 because we got into the grand final but unfortunately the boys didn’t get in. We versed Pinewood the scores were 1-0 unfortunately we lost but we all tried really hard and we did our best. The next week later the girls found out we still got into the next round of soccer even though we lost!!!

Our Inquiry

This term in inquiry we are learning about space. We first started doing a mindmup of what we know about space. I’ve been learning a lot of new things since I have been learning about space. Yesterday we watched a BTN ( Behind The News) video about the Rosetta Mission and comets.

I learnt…..

  •  that 70% of our Earth is made up of water, but scientists don’t know how it all got here. One possibility is that it came here in comets, so studying a comet up close could tell us for sure
  • Comets are made up of Dirt, Rock and Ice
  • Scientist’s think studying comets might explain how life on Earth
  • A Rosetta has been able to tell what a comet would smell like. It would smell like rotten egg, alcohol, bitter almonds, vinegar and horse wee
  • Comets are small and hoe no gravity to land a Rosetta

Thank you for reading my story

My Busy Week 4

This week senior IG have done lots of things. We have done art, library, genius hour, the year 5’s did their SRC speeches, twilight sport practices and the year 6’s had a leadership day. One of the things that I have been enjoying is the twilight sport practices because the sport leaders ( I am one of them ) had to come up with a dance and a song to perform at twilight sports but we have to teach it to our house colours first. We have been practicing marching, dancing and the activities we will be doing at twilight sport. Another thing that I did enjoy was the year 6 leadership day, it was an interesting and fun day that we had. First we had Ashlings sister Niamh come in and talk to us about how she was a leader at her school Siena and what she did to get the opportunity to be a leader at Siena. After she talked to us the teachers had made us a book with all these different activities for us to do to teach us how we can be a good leader. But my favourite thing was having potato cakes and chips for lunch, wearing free dress and bringing in a snack to share with everyone. Overall this week has been really fun for me and I can’t wait for next week.

Camp Reflection

Before Camp

I am excited that we are going to camp tomorrow because I get to spend a fun time with my friends and I’ve never done something like what we are going to do at camp ( plus there’s no school!!!! )

I am hoping that I have a really cool and fun experience at camp. I am looking forward to the activities because they sound like fun and also the campfire.

I am hoping that after camp I can learn more about people.

The best part of camp was the campfire because it was fun and I learnt new and silly songs. The giant swing was also really fun because it felt like I was flying and my last one is the Flying Fox because it was going fast.

The funniest thing was when we were doing the trust exercises and people fell into the muddy water because some people dived in themselves, Also, doing the mud run was funny, because of people’s’ reactions to what we had to do in the mud run.

The hardest part was walking up this giant hill everyday.

Something I learned for the first time was how to canoe properly and how to do archery.

Some of the people  I got to know better were the people in my cabin. I learnt what their lifestyle is like at home. (the people in my cabin were Jasmine, Caoimhe, Natasha, Akuac, Daisy and Alex)

Something that surprised me was that my group actually worked pretty well in our activities.

The most memorable part was the campfire because everyone that came to camp was altogether. Plus, the things that the people in my cabin did will be very memorable.

October 20

In class today we watched a BTN video about where rubbish goes and about what Landfill is. I learnt that the waste at the Landfill place can go under to 16 meters underground, there can be up to 8 layers of rubbish stacked on top of each other with a layer of soil in between. Once a layer is filled in trees, shrubs and grass can be planted over it. Landfills usually last for about 50 years before they have to find a new sight for our rubbish.

After we watched the video we played a game teaching us which rubbish goes in the right bin. What you had to do in the game was you had pieces of rubbish, clothes, food scraps (things like that) and you would have six bins. The bins are Kitchen caddy, Worm farm, Organic bin, Recycle bin, Waste to landfill bin and compost bin. Then you would put the rubbish into the right bin. After watching this video and playing the rubbish game I understand a bit more about what we can do to help our environment. I would like to ask some Questions about rubbish: What is Landfill? What do you think is the long term impact of using landfills? What do You do to help save our Environment? If you would like to watch the video about Landfill here is the link http://www.abc.net.au/btn/story/s3953606.htm.

Macquarie Island – Elephant Seals

Elephant seals are large, ocean loving mammals who are earless. There are two species of Elephant Seals the Northern Elephant Seal and the Southern Elephant Seal. Both these species were hunted to the limit of extinction by the 19th century, but the numbers have gone up higher.

Elephant Seals Weight and Height

Southern Elephant Seals are the largest of all Seals. Males can be over 20 feet (6 meters) long and weigh up to 8,800 pounds ( 4,000 kilos). The female Seals are much smaller at 10 feet (3 meters) in length and 1,500 pounds (600 kilos). The Northern Seal is the second largest Seal in the world, after the Southern Elephant Seal.

Elephant Seals Food

Northern Elephant Seals have a mixed diet. The diet includes Sharks, Flatfish, Ratfish, Crab, Squid and Octopus. Southern Elephant Seals mainly eat Fish and Squid, but the Seals have been known to eat eat Fish from the ocean’s darkest depths.

Elephant Seals Predators

Elephant Seals have no land predators but Great White Sharks and Killer Whales prey on Elephant Seals.

Population of Elephant Seals

By 1910 it was estimated that there were less than 100 Seals, all found on Guadalupe Island off Baja California and Mexico. Today The Northern  Elephant Seals population is approximately 150,000 with 124,000 which they are in California Waters.

Northern Elephant Seals are found in the North Pacific, from Baja California, Mexico and Alaska. During breeding season, they live on Beaches and on Offshore Islands.

Inquiry Reflection

What have I learnt about people, places and events of Australian history from the last century?

This term in inquiry we have been learning about Democracy, Federation, Government and Australian Political Figures. With Democracy, Federation and Government we went to the Australian Parliament house for an excursion. We learnt about how to make a bill, Who the main people in the Parliament house and we did our own little debates with scripts and roles to play. Making a bill has to go through a debate first to see who’s against it and who’s for it, then they will make a vote about it and then the speaker will count up the votes and then he/she will say “ I think the ayes have it” or say “I think the nos have it.” Another thing that we have been doing is our own inquiry plt. ( personal learning task ) You have to pick Australian Political Figure and find information on how they impacted on Australia. I’m doing Annabelle Rankin I picked her because I didn’t know anything about her and I had never heard of her before. She was the first woman from Queensland to sit in the Parliament Of Australia, her opening campaign speech in Maryborough in July 1946 attracted one of the largest crowds ever to attend a political meeting in that town, the number including almost twice as many women as men.

I learnt a lot this term about  Democracy, Federation and Government I hope I do the same with Our next term inquiry topic Geography.

Scott’s Cafe Review

Scott’s Cafe Review

Today I went to Scott’s Cafe it is quite different to other places you go to. I walked into the cafe it was packed with people, I saw people eating different foods I’ve never combined together before. So I didn’t waste time worrying about what the food taste like. At Scott’s Cafe it is an open buffet I went to the food the first thing that caught my eye was the seaweed crackers with tzatziki. The flavours that burst into my mouth salty, crunchy, tasty and the dip was rather cold. I then ate carrot with hummus it was fresh, sweet and bitter.

Just as I was about to leave a young man stood up and recommended for everyone to try seaweed crackers with eggplant dip. I thought something new I’d never heard of. When I put it in my mouth I could hear the crunching of the cracker but also tasting sweet, fresh, bitter and it was very healthy.

I recommend this cafe if you are an adventurous eater!!!
